Today, little remains of the railway bridge over the Sapina river. It was part of a vast railway investment and technically advanced engineering project. During World War I German sappers blew up the eastern span. It was rebuilt and bravely served until 1945, when the Russian troops appeared on the horizon to liberate Eastern Prussia from Nazi captivity. Germans expected an attack and mined the bridge, but fortunately no one ever detonated the bombs. It was later on blew up by the locals to stop Russians from further looting. Nowadays, the ruins are a historical place and sightseeing attraction.
Gołdapa river - The river is a right tributary of Węgorapa with a length of 89 km and catchment area of 678.40 km2. The source of Gołdapa is located near Szerejki village. Major part of river flows through Brożajcki canal. Larger tributaries include Dzięgiela , Pogorzelska Struga, Czarna Struga, Rożynka i Kanał Janki.
Węgorapa river - Its total length is 139.90 km, of which 43.90 km flows within polish land. Its outflow is in Mamry lake. Just behind Mieduniszkami river crosses the state border and gets to Russia.
This unique lake pier with a jump pad is located in a beautiful city park in Olecko. The pier is a great attraction especially during the summer. Within the area tourists can also visit: bar, pier, jump, waterslide, golf, beach volleyball and water equipment rental. The facilities were built in 1930 as part of the sports and leisure center. The pier is listed as a monument, however needed to be rebuilt in 2004. An important element is high, white tower located at the very end, it is a symbol of the Olecko city. Today, it’s a place for walks and regular sports or cultural events.
